How do Foreign Exchange (FX) fees work for card payments in Juni?

Managing costs when spending in multiple currencies is key to scaling globally. With Juni, you always see the foreign exchange (FX) fee up front, so you stay in control of your spend.

This guide explains how FX fees work when you use your Juni card in a different currency. The FX fee is included in the exchange rate shown at the time of the transaction and depends on your pricing plan, ranging from 1.5% to 1.8%.


Foreign Exchange Fee (Card Payments)

When do I get charged a card FX fee?

An FX fee will be charged when you use your Juni card to make payments in a currency different from the currency of your Juni card.

How much does Juni charge in card FX fees?

The FX fee depends on your Juni pricing plan and typically ranges between 1.5% and 1.8%.

This fee is applied on top of the network exchange rate (e.g. Mastercard) and is included in the final rate.

Where can I see the exchange rate and fee applied?

You can view the full breakdown of the exchange rate and any fees in the transaction details section of your Juni account.

Go to Money > Transactions and click on the specific transaction to see:

  • The exchange rate applied

  • The FX fee (included in the rate)

  • The amounts in both currencies

What happens when I get a refund?

If you receive a refund from the merchant, the original FX fee will not be refunded. However, if the transaction is reversed (not refunded), you will not be charged an FX fee.

How can I minimise the amount of FX fees I pay on card transactions?

Juni offers IBAN accounts in multiple currencies to help you reduce the FX fees you pay.

If you need to spend in a specific currency (e.g. GBP), you can:

Hold funds in that currency, or

• Use the Transfer feature to move funds between your Juni accounts and then pay with a card in the same currency.

Note: while transfers between different currency accounts still incur an FX fee, account FX fees are typically lower than card FX fees, making this a more cost-effective option in many cases.

What happens to the FX fee if there is an unauthorised transaction on my account?

If there’s an unauthorised transaction, please contact our support team immediately.

If you raise a chargeback and it is approved, the full amount of the original transaction, including the FX fee, will be refunded.
